


Thomas C. Wimsatt is a member of the Saginaw County Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Tom was born in Plymouth, Michigan, graduated from Johns Hopkins University (B.A., 1973; M.A., 1976), and received his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1980. He was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1980, and is a member of the Appellate Law Section and the Advocates Guild of the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society.
Following law school, Tom clerked for Chief Justice John Fitzgerald of the Michigan Supreme Court for two years. Upon Justice Fitzgerald’s retirement, he stayed on for an additional year and became Justice James Brickley’s first law clerk. Tom then went into private practice with an emphasis on insurance defense, professional negligence and employment law.
Tom has actively represented clients in all phases of trial and appellate work for 25 years. He has presented cases to state and federal courts and administrative agencies, including the Michigan Supreme Court, the Michigan Court of Appeals, and the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in Cincinnati, Ohio.
His litigation experience includes civil rights claims involving excessive force, race, gender and age. His employment experience includes claims for wrongful discharge, sexual harassment, and race, gender and age discrimination. He also has extensive experience in the areas of breach of express and implied contracts, professional malpractice, insurance disputes, auto negligence and premises liability.
